Why edit, edit, edit?

Words have the capacity to enlighten, motivate and entertain and the way your words are laid out on a page matters.  A simple typo or a thoughtless sentence structure can leave your readers confused, and worse, irritated. Best words come from the heart, but when they're being preserved in a book, they should be controlled by the head.

No matter how many hours of hard work you pour into a novel, the good things are forgotten long before the bad. Whilst we're only human and errors are inevitable, people have a habit of remembering gaffes. Although your readers are unlikely to hold it against you for using "there" instead of "their" once or twice, it's not something you want to be remembered for. Typos can make you look unprofessional. When you've devoted so much time creating characters and plots you're proud of, the last thing you want is to undo all that hard work. After you've found one typo, it's difficult to forget it.
